What degree did you receive and what was your major?

I was a continuing ed student. I took French III & IV to add that endorsement to my teaching certificate. I also took Art & Culture for three CEUs to maintain my certificate.

What is your current occupation?

Dean of Planning & Assessment at MDCC!

Why did you choose to attend MDCC?

I chose MDCC because it was conveniently close to home, offered what I needed, and was affordable. Back when I took classes, I had small kids and was teaching part-time. I could earn credits for my teaching certificate during the week when my kids were in school or during the summer in a condensed "Maymester" course. I felt comfortable on campus as an adult learner because there were others besides me. I can totally see myself continuing to take classes here because learning new things keeps my mind feeling fresh even as my body is starting to complain about getting older.

Who was your favorite teacher during your time at MDCC and why?

Ellen Steeby was a fabulous language teacher. You could look anywhere in her room and learn something from all the items she posted and updated on the walls. She met everyone with a dynamic smile and was so encouraging.

What is your best memory from your time at MDCC?

My best memory from being a student at MDCC was being encouraged to try new things. For example, I had never taken a formal art class before the one I took here. It was so much fun to learn about ink wash painting, block printing, colored pencils, and pastels via hands-on activities in a small class environment.

For you personally, what encapsulates the term "Trojan Spirit"?

For me, loyalty, determination, and taking care of your own represent the Trojan Spirit.
